End Citizens United Determined To Fight Unlimited Campaign Spending Using Much Needed Political Reforms

End Citizens United is a newly formed Political Action Committee whose mission is to push for radical changes regarding political funding and unlimited campaign spending. The PAC plans to channel millions of dollars to various Democratic Party candidates running for Senate and House seats in the 2016 elections. The group has already endorsed 11 Democratic candidates.

So far, the PAC has raised over $2 million – one month after its launch – and it is on track to raise between $25 million and $30 million during the entire campaign cycle. End Citizens United aims to push for a constitutional amendment that will reverse the 2010 ruling by the Supreme Court dubbed the “Citizens United” decision. The ruling allowed billionaires to form super PACs that unleashed massive amounts of dark money into the U.S. political scene.

Since its inception and launch, End Citizens United has collected over 325,000 signatures from people who want Congress to pass its legislation. It has already partnered with the Ready for Hilary group, which plans to rent out its email list containing over 4 million addresses. Already, the group has planned to set up an autonomous expenditure arm on endcitizensunited.org that will financially back selected candidates through initiatives like direct mailers, polling, and television ads.

No Smooth Sailing
End Citizens United’s mission has been met with skepticism especially from campaign finance experts. After all, a constitutional amendment requires the consent of two-thirds of both the House and Senate as well as a ratification from three-quarters of states. Furthermore, the U.S. has not passed any constitutional amendment bill since 1992.
